In 1955 Ray Croc opened a franchised McDonalds in Iowa and purchased the company from the founders, two brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald. Crocs restaurant was the ninth McDonald's. The final deal was supposed to be a type of partnership between the McDonalds and Croc but it got ugly with both sides allegedly ripping off the other. When Croc got control of the company, he would open McDonald's near some Big M restaurants
